Alice and the hours

Listen ... can you feel the heartbeat?
or maybe it's dust that grain by grain falls,
or the pages that spin slowly ...

Description

In a suspended world Alice looks at us between the pages of her life that twirl and ladybugs with pierced wings immobile.
I saw my Alice one cold autumn morning. I went up my usual dirt road towards Pewley Down. I spent every morning there skirting the Holy Trinity Pewly Down School. I went up, she ran down to school. She had a red wool sweater, very blond hair, milky skin. She looked at me for a moment, distracted and empty. I felt it on her skin like magic dust.
She was the child of my fairy tales. Maybe it was me. She was a double me. I continued up the woods to my park bench at the top of the hill. I used to sit there every morning gluing myself to the ice on the wood. The silence in that upper part of the park was a blanket that enveloped the world. From there the eye was lost in the valleys below among the still sleepy horses and the grass white with frost.
Oil painting on canvas in England. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
